Journey Through Research: A Community-Based Experience

Embarking on a community-based research project is no small feat. It’s a process that involves teamwork, dedication, and a deep understanding of the people you're studying. Through this photoblog, I’m excited to share the story of my group’s journey as we worked together to explore and gather insights from our local community. From brainstorming our ideas to analyzing data and presenting our findings, each step was an opportunity to learn and grow. Here, you’ll get a glimpse of our experience, told through the pictures we captured along the way.

• Group Brainstorming Session

Every successful research project starts with a strong foundation. We kicked off our work by brainstorming ideas and discussing our approach to the Santo Domingo Aldaw Dagiti Mannalon Festival. This session was crucial for setting the direction of our research and aligning our goals. We made sure everyone’s input was considered as we refined our approach to studying the festival’s cultural significance.

• Planning Interview Questions

Instead of using surveys, we decided to interview community members to gather in-depth insights. Designing our interview questions was a collaborative effort, making sure they were respectful, clear, and open-ended. We wanted to hear the stories and experiences of the people who participate in the Aldaw Dagiti Mannalon Festival, and we carefully crafted questions to guide our conversations.

• Conducting Interviews

Although the festival was still months away, we didn’t want to miss the chance to speak with the community. We conducted interviews with locals, gathering their thoughts on what the festival meant to them and their families. These conversations were incredibly valuable in helping us understand the festival's cultural roots and the role it plays in their lives.

• Analyzing Interview Responses

After collecting the interview responses, we gathered to analyze the information. We discussed recurring themes and insights that would shape our final research. This part of the process allowed us to piece together a deeper understanding of how the festival influences the local community and what it represents to them.

• Preparing the Research Findings

Once we had analyzed the interview data, we began preparing our findings. I was responsible for summarizing the conclusion, and the team worked together to highlight the key insights. We aimed to showcase the festival’s cultural significance and the role it plays in the lives of Santo Domingo’s residents, even before it takes place.

• Printing the Hard Copy for Submission

After completing our research and compiling all the insights, we moved on to printing the final version of our research. It was an important step, as we needed to submit a hard copy to our teacher, Ma'am Evelyn Reyes. This task ensured that everything was properly formatted and ready for review. It felt satisfying to see our work come to life in print.

• Group Presentation Day

On the day of the presentation, we shared our research findings and the insights gathered from our interviews. Though the festival hadn’t occurred yet, we were able to show its importance through the stories and experiences of the community members we spoke with. It was fulfilling to see the audience connect with the significance of the event

• Reflection After the Presentation
Our hard work culminated in a successful presentation. It was a great experience to share the story of the Santo Domingo Aldaw Dagiti Mannalon Festival, even before it happens. Through interviews, we learned so much about the festival’s cultural value, and the process of conducting research and presenting our findings brought us closer as a team.

The Santo Domingo Aldaw Dagiti Mannalon Festival stands as a testament to the rich agricultural heritage and cultural pride of the community. Through our research, we discovered that the festival is more than just a local event; it is a symbol of unity, resilience, and a deep appreciation for the hardworking farmers who play a pivotal role in sustaining the town's livelihood. Although we conducted our interviews in January, well before the festival’s celebration in May, the insights shared by the community members allowed us to understand the festival's lasting significance. Their stories of tradition, unity, and celebration of their agricultural roots painted a vivid picture of what the Aldaw Dagiti Mannalon Festival means to them. This research not only brought us closer to understanding the festival’s importance but also gave us a deeper appreciation for the people who carry on these time-honored practices. Our collaboration as a team throughout the project strengthened our bond and allowed us to showcase the spirit of the festival through the eyes of those who are most connected to it.
